Pat Suzuki - How High The Moon (5 Meg .mp3)
Some of you might remember this song from the opening scene of Biloxi Blues that starred Matthew Broderick and Chris Walken. He's my uncle so I can call him Chris (ed: we have no idea what he is talking about).
Oddly this version wasn't recorded until 1953 or so, long after the world war WWII. It's my favorite version of the song, as so many other singers give it a nice rollicking beat. Not here. This is one of the laziest musical rolls that could be given this song. It's slow, and that's how it should be. All other versions of this song somehow sound wrong after Pat Suzuki's approach.
I used to have this posted up on Montesol.org, which I removed, but someone wrote me earlier this year looking for a copy for their parent's 50th anniversary. I didn't get the email until months later, and I never replied to her, so I hope this somehow finds her. I'm gonna have to see if I still have that email.

THANKS xtra for posting this. There are nice people in the world. What a sweet version. I can't stand the 'bop" versions of how high the moon. There was also a real nice version in "Good Night and Good Luck". I'd love to know who's that is too. Cheers.

like everyone else it seems, I had been searching for this mp3 ever since I saw Biloxi Blues so many years ago. I cant thank you enough for putting one up here. This is a hauntingly beautiful tune. As an aside, if you guys are into the "hypnotic songbird" type of thing, please try and find an mp3 of Eva Cassidy's "Upon a Star." It will give you chills its so beautiful.

How do I download Pat Suzuki's "How high is the Moon'?

Thanks-a-bunch for posting this track. You've probably spared me from having to pay hundreds to get the last copy known to man from some witch doctor hiding out in a third-world country.
Great, great song. I love it!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I totally agree with you about other versions even by the greats sounding wrong after listening to this version.

Like Alex, I would like to know how to download the track. I don't have an MP3 but my Mac can burn CD's.
Thank you for a beautiful recording. I just saw Biloxi Blues on tv and discovered who recorded this version. I agree with others; it is the best version out there.

Thank you very much for the song. I have been looking for this for over 20 years. I can't agree with you more. This is the only version of the song that truely captures the essense and emotion of what the song has to offer. Thank you again!!!!!

I'm so pleased that I FINALLY found this song. It's so beautiful and sung the way it should be. It's a real gem for my collection. Thank you for making it available.

I drop a tear every time I hear it. It's great that you posted up the mp3, I've asked the itunes store to offer it up several times, god knows I would pay twenty dollars for this song. They haven't done it yet but I suppose if all the enthusiastic people above would request it too, we'd get some results. Anyway, thanks for posting it.

I have emailed you in December asking permission to download this song in my iMac computer. I get the response"does not seem to be a valid Podcast URL." Do you care to share this song or do you just want us to be able to listen to it from time to time?

I couldn't agree more with the overwhelming appreciation expressed by so many fans. I too have been looking high and low for this exact recording. The Dianne Reeves recording from Good Night, and Good Luck is great but not as wonderful as this one. So thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Thank you so much for sharing such a gem of a track! We just finished watching Biloxi Blues, and I was determined to find it this time - I, like all the others above, have been searching for it for years. This version is haunting and gorgeous. I defy anyone with a sliver of romance to not love this track forever.
Thank you!

Hi and thank you. I have had the good fortune of meeting Miss Suzuki and hearing her sing live (I was young and it was at a telethon, but I was still mesmerized). Since finding this song, I think I've listened to it five times a day every day. She is an amazing performer and absolutely flawless in tone and delivery. I have 3 or 4 of her albums from the 50s and the 60s that were my father's. He was fortunate enough to hear her in her heyday at the Colony in Seattle and become friends with her. Thank you for reminding me what a gem Miss Suzuki is and what a true jazz professional she is.

Thanks for the MP3 of "How High The Moon". Biloxi Blues is one of my favorite all time movies. The song, to me, sounds like a wonderful day dream...a day dream of a bygone era and place.
Thanks again...

My sincere gratitude with that of the others; I just happened to tune in the movie over the Labor Day weekend and the dance scene was on with this wonderful song. Haven't seen the film in years but I'm going to have a copy soon, I can tell you. Only rare compilations feature the title music by Georges Delarue; and definitely NOT this tune, so again, MANY THANKS !! Her voice, this tune and this recording of them are a thing of beauty that make this world better: I'm so glad I kept looking!
